I'm Philippe Cauneau, a professional photographer for 15 years, based in Brussels and specialising in event reporting, corporate documentaries, portraits and architectural photography.
For me, photography is a means of expression, like writing. It has always allowed me to tell the story of the world around me, using my own 'vocabulary' and style. I like to seek out and highlight the expressive and aesthetic character - sometimes unsuspected - of a scene or a place. Even if chance is one of the things that exist, I remain attached to thoughtful photography, which offers content in a deliberate composition and attempts to sublimate reality.
Street photography - which I still enjoy doing - led me a few years ago to report on events, and then to portraits. The common denominator is people, their activities and the space in which they live. It's this facet of photography that appeals to me and gives meaning to my work.
